Family Fun for the Cure

Editor 05/27/09

On Saturday, June 20th, OCM BOCES Career Academy (Alternative High School) will be holding a "Family Festival for the Cure" from 1 to 4 p.m on the campus of the Lee G. Peters Career Training Center, at 4500 Crown Road in Liverpool. The festival will take place outdoors and will include food, beverages, games, raffles and a meet and greet with breast cancer survivor, Carol M. Baldwin and her daughter, Elizabeth. Students, families, friends and the community are encouraged to come to this fun event to benefit a positive cause. The event is free and open to the public, with tickets being sold for food, games and raffles.

Staff of the school will participate in a dunk tank booth and pie-throwing contest. The Moyer's Corners Fire Department will be on hand with fire trucks and equipment to teach younger children about fire safety and prevention. Raffles will include gift certificates to several local restaurants and shops.

Career Academy students and staff became actively involved in the fight against breast cancer in 2008 when an attendee of the school was diagnosed with cancer. Since that time, the school has raised money to fight breast
cancer and has made several donations to the Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. In addition to the festival on the 20th, Career Academy students and staff, as well as students and staff from several alternative and special education programs at OCM BOCES, will participate in a Walk-a-Thon to raise money on June 5th. A group will be walking from the Career Training Center Campus to Onondaga Lake Park for a barbeque and will then walk back to campus.
