Not just bingo anymore – though it’s still offered!

Four decades is a long period of time. It outlasts trends, spans generational gaps and sometimes even crosses a century mark. So trying to plan for a group of people whose ages range from 55 to 95 is not an easy task - but the Center for Clay Seniors (located on Rt.31 in the old firebarn) is suceeding at just that.

Chrissy Clancy, the director of the Center, tries to offer a large variety activities so that everyone can find something they like. The point, she says, is to “pick and choose” what they want to do, not to attend everything. Typically the younger seniors (those 55-65) are the toughest to please, since they sometime have pre-concieved notions about what goes on at a senior center and think they will be bored...

The first quarter of Clay’s police merger

The question that has been on every Clay resident’s mind can be answered right now: the Sheriffs Department will be checking candy on Halloween for local kids. All kidding aside, that was one of the questions asked when Town of Clay Supervisor Jim Rowley announced the proposed merger of the in-town police department with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department. The merger, which was put to a town-wide vote in June, won out by 69% and officially went into effect in early July.
Since the inception, reactions have been positive overall – no negative emails or letters have been received during these first three months. Though there are no formal statistics available yet, the anecdotal proof is present...
